TABOR is an iPhone app for collecting Warsaw’s buses and trams, made by Filip Manikowski (“I”, “me”). It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your catches stay on your phone. This page lists everything the app does send over the internet, and why.
What stays on your iPhone
Your book: every catch, its photo and sticker, its date, and where you caught it. Reading the fleet number and cutting the sticker both happen on the phone. None of it is uploaded to me or to anyone else. The only copy outside the phone is the one in your own iCloud, if you use it (below).
Your settings, badges and statistics, and the data the widgets show (kept in a container shared only with TABOR’s own widgets).
If you turn on debug mode in Settings, a log of your shots is written to the app’s own folder on the phone. It is never sent anywhere.
Settings › Backup can export your book as a ZIP file, which goes wherever you choose to save it.
Camera, photos and location
Camera: used to read fleet numbers and take catch photos. Pictures are processed on the phone and are not uploaded.
Photos: TABOR can save a catch’s full photo to your library (add-only access), and you can pick a photo from your library or share one to TABOR to catch it. It reads only the photos you pick.
Location (while using the app): shows the vehicles near you on the HUNT map and records where each catch was made, on your phone. Your location is not sent to my server. Two things leave the phone, described below: a rounded position for the weather, and Apple’s place-name lookup.
What the app sends, and to whom
Live vehicle positions come from my server, taborapi.thefilip.com (a Cloudflare Worker), which passes on the City of Warsaw’s public feed. The app asks it for all buses or all trams; the request contains no location and no identifier. Like any web server, it sees your IP address, which is used to limit each address to 60 requests a minute. Cloudflare keeps request logs, which can include the IP address, for up to 7 days, for fixing problems; I don’t use them for anything else. If you paste your own city key in Settings, the app asks the city’s service (dane.um.warszawa.pl) directly instead.
Fleet data and routes are downloaded at most once a day: the fleet list from GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com), the routes from taborapi.thefilip.com. Nothing about you is sent.
Weather at a catch comes from Open-Meteo. The app sends the hour of the catch and its position rounded to about 1 km, never your exact spot.
Place names (the district and street of a catch) come from Apple’s geocoding service, which receives the catch’s position. The HUNT map is Apple Maps. Both fall under Apple’s privacy policy.
Lock Screen tracking: when you tap TRACK on a vehicle, the app sends my server the vehicle’s number, the stretch of its route up to your stop (the stop names and their positions), and a push token Apple issues for that one Live Activity. The server uses them to send the Lock Screen updates through Apple’s push service. They are deleted when the tracking ends, after 45 minutes at most. The token can’t be used to identify you or to send other notifications.
iCloud sync
If your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, TABOR keeps your book (catches, photos, stickers, where and when you caught them, and models you picked by hand) in the app’s private database in your own iCloud account, so it reaches your other devices and comes back after a reinstall.
That data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account and counts towards your iCloud storage. I can’t see it, read it or access it in any way; nobody else can either. It falls under Apple’s privacy policy.
To stop syncing, turn TABOR off in the iOS Settings app › your name › iCloud. Your book then stays only on the phone. To remove the iCloud copy, delete TABOR’s data under iCloud storage there.
Tips
TABOR is free. Settings › Support TABOR offers optional tips through Apple’s In-App Purchase. Apple handles the payment; I never see your name, card or Apple Account, only Apple’s anonymous sales totals.
The app reads your purchase history from the App Store, on the phone, only to show the ♥ SUPPORTER mark. Tips unlock nothing else.
What TABOR doesn’t do
No sign-in, no account of its own, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no selling or sharing of data, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
Crash reports
If you have turned on sharing with app developers in iOS (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), or you send feedback from TestFlight, Apple passes me anonymous crash reports and that feedback. This is up to you and handled by Apple.
Children
TABOR doesn’t collect personal data from anyone, children included.
Changes and contact
If the app starts sending something new, this page will say so before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
Questions, or a request about your data: fm@thefilip.com. Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data and to complain to the Polish data protection authority (UODO). In practice I hold none about you, apart from the short-lived logs and tracking data above: your iCloud copy is in your account, not mine.
